Have a trust relationship with another domain. Want it to join the other domain.
I have a 2 way trust between 2 domains lets call A and B. They are at 2 locations. I'm residing on the B domain and I have the option to login to the A domain. But I want to have a computer join the A domain in the different location. is there a way to do this? I'm getting this error. Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt. DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain hostname.com: The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.hostname.com The following domain controllers were identified by the query: DC01.hostname.com DC02.hostname.com Common causes of this error include: - Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses. - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running. Hi, I presume this is because the non-domain joined machine does not have a direct network connection to Domain Controller A. You may be able to work around this by utilizing Offline Domain Join: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/offline-domain-join-djoin-step-by-step(WS.10).aspx Thanks, John

These machines are windows xp and we are running server 2003. Is there any other work around? Or should I wait and join one of the B domain controller to the A domain controller?

Hi Tony, If you had created a two-way forest trust for both sides, it should not problem to achieve the goal. According the diagnose result , I think the network connectivity between two site may cause this issue. please check the AD and DNS replication first after that please check if there is any problem that connect to domain controller in sit A form site B For more information please take look the articles below: Troubleshooting Active Directory—Related DNS Problems http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727055.aspx Managing replication http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc757117(WS.10).aspx Create a two-way, forest trust for both sides of the trust http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc778851(WS.10).aspx Thanks.
