HP Storage Management Pack 3.0

Hello,

Is any one successful in getting diagram view of HP storage devices using HP Storage Management Pack 3.0 for SCOM 2012.  I could successfully send SNMP test traps from storage nodes to SCOM server.  My configuration is Gateway server in an untrusted domain and have trouble connecting  HP Storage Management Pack User Configuration Tool.exe application to SCOM server from GW server domain.  It is not clear which port is used by this tool/application to communicate with SCOM server.  Any pointer in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Rajemma,

The application uses TCP 5988, this is unencrypted SMI-S, don't know where the encryption option is in this tool but unencrypted works. Don't forget to set the unencrypted SMI-S in your storage device. This is of course if u are using the SMI-S provider (3Par,MSA P2000). What u can do is install TCPView from Sysinternals/MS and see what port the process uses when u start to add the storage device.

Cheerz,

Peter

I am planning to deploy HP 3PAR MP in my SCOM 2012 SP1 environment to monitor 3PAR storage. Can anyone share with HP link from where I can download that MP. Also please let me know, this MP is free or licensed.

If any doc for the deployment of this MP can be shared , would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Sushil

This error indicates that SCOM unable to exucte wmi notification query to class (ex. SNMP_MSA2000TRAPS_MIB_msaEventWarningTrapV1NotificationType_Notification) namespace root\snmp\localhost .

To resolve this error start service SNMP Trap on computer where you enabled discovery for HP SNMP Trap Catcher Rule.

Also ensure that this computer have referenced wmi classes and feature SNMP WMI Provider is installed.

  • Configure SNMP service and SNMP trap  on a not management/gateway server (ex. SRV01)
    • automatic and started
    • SNMP service: accept any hosts and enter the community
  • Install HP Storage Management Pack for System Center (v4) on that server (SRV01) as collection point      server
  • Add registry string value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Hewlett-Packard\HP Storage      Management Pack for System Center\SCOMPath, value:C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Operations Manager\Server\
  • Start HP Storage Management Pack User Configuration Tool, connect to that server (SRV01).
    • Add the HP P2000 device (make sure the user has smi-s rights)
  • Enable the "discovery objects HP P2000 MSA SNMP trap Catcher Rule" and "HP P2000 MSA Storage Discovery Rule" for that server in SCOM.
