GPO - Offline files/folders
This has become a huge annoyance.
I thought I had this fixed. But it's been a while since I logged into a domain PC for the first time.
Windows Server 2003 DCs. A GPO for automatical folder redirection.
Everytime I login to a PC on the domain for the first time, Offline files gets turned on. So when I logoff, I get the message saying it's synchronizing. I don't want that!
Used
this article to configure a GPO to disable this.
Doesn't work. Yes, I can get it to remove the offline folders tabs.
I've set both of these to disabled:
Synchronize all Offline Files when logging on
Synchronize all Offline Files when logging off
Doesn't help. Tried it for both User and Computer config. All computers are in a OU that I created, not the default computer container.
I know which setting to use to prevent users from enabling offline files. Which setting do I use to prevent a computer from turning on offline folders, the first time I login to it?
Thanks.

Did you look at the setting "Allow or disallow the use of the offline files feature" in Computer configuration > Administrative templates > Network > Offline files?
Also, if you run "gpresult /r" from a cmd.exe, do you see that the GPO containing your settings are being applied?Blogging about Windows for IT pros at

Hi,
I would like to confirm whether:
You would like to use Offline Files, but not sync automatically when logon/logoff.
You do not would like to use Offline Files.
If you do not would like to use Offline Files, disable it as you mentioned (Remove Offline Files tab), and also enable "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline" as redirected folders will be set as offline automatically.
