Four Virtual Machines with Multiple Server Roles
Hello Everyone.
I am looking at deploying the following virtual machines on a
Dell PowerEdge R810 Server. Each virtual-machine's operating-system and the roles it will perform are listed below.
VM1: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition
Active Directory Domain Controller Active Directory Certificate Server Active Directory Rights Management Server Active Directory Global Catalog Server
VM2: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Domain Name System Server
VM3: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Web (IIS) Server File Transfer Protocol Server Email Server
VM4: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Database Server
Note: The physical (host) server will run Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition, due to which the total number of virtual servers cannot exceed four. There is no prospect of using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
Edition for the foreseeable future, due to budgetary constraints. The foremost requirement is for the servers to reliably run continuously without interruption of any kind, as this is for a production environment.
I need to know the following information.
In regard of virtual-machines 1 and 3, will any of the roles conflict with any of the other roles within each virtual machine?
Can the nine server roles be better distributed among the four virtual-machines in order to optimize performance, and if so can anyone suggest such an organization?
Thanks again to everyone.
