Folder permission in Windows 2008 R2 Server
Hi everyone, Is it possible to setup a folder permission such that a user can only create/delete/remove subfolders and files for which that user is an owner of? This same user will not be able to delete/move folders or files for which the user is not an owner of but can modify them. Thanks. Tan

you can use special 'Owner Rights' account to assign required permissions.http://en-us.sysadmins.lv

Hi, Owner Rights can be set on "subfolder and files only" on parent folder, which can help us give specific permission to owners on subfolder. If you cannot delete a file, you will also fail to modify. Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

> If you cannot delete a file, you will also fail to modify this is not quite correct statement. This is true for certain applications, such MS Office, but not all applications do the same thing.http://en-us.sysadmins.lv

Hi, After submit the reply, I start to think if it is available as you mentioned. I'm testing now and will report the result.Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

I finished my test. Here are the result. 1. Give "Owner Rights" full control on "this folder, subfolders and files". 2. Give Everyone traverse folder, list folder, read attributes, read extended attributes, create files and create folders on "this folder only" 3. GiveEveryone Full Control and uncheck Delete subfolders and files, Delete, Change permission and Take ownership on "Subfolders and files only" 4. Give a specific user such as Administrator a full control if needed. This should help on your question --- please note. cannot delete means you cannot rename a file.Shaon Shan| TechNet Subscriber Support in forum| If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
