File locked on network storage
Hi, we've have at least 4 computers using the same username in our enviroment (pro and cons about that can be left out). And sometimes files on our network storage gets locked, "Locked by <our username>". But still if we kill all instances of excel on our 4 machines. The files still remain locked. And our it-support can only see which user locks the file, and that do we already know. Is there any way to see which machine/ip that use the file atm? We use win xp on the workstations and windows server 2003 at ADs. //Elmeholt

Well, using the same username and password is one of the cons in this case. As you already know, tracing file-lock issues with the same credential is difficult. This is not really a fix, but something to investigate to help alleviate your problem. I assume (from your post) that you are using Excel as a flat-file database. One, you could enable workbook sharing that will allow multiple users to access and modify the same file without having the file-lock issue. Two, you could port your Excel worksheet to an Access database with a data backend and a data entry front end. Again, that would alleviate your file lock issue.

Hi Elmeholt, Thank you for the post. Please use Shared Folders Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to close an open file. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732037.aspx If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.
