Failure negotiating credentials from MAC-OSX for RemoteDesktop

The remotedesktop client was working fine on my Mac before I upgraded to OSX Maverix. Following the upgrade to OSX, it stopped working. So upgraded to  Version 8.0.24308 which is the latest available version. At this point, remote-desktop fails in the step "Negotiating Credentials". However, I'm able to use the CoRD app to remotely connect to the same destination host. Checked the firewall logs on the remote host - these packets are not being blocked. And the fact that other remote-desktop clients to the same destination machine work fine (from my MAC), and that I can connect to the destination host from multiple Windows machines, indicates the settings on the remote machine is fine.

Any help with this would be great. The following are the relevant parts of the log from the remote-desktop-app

Hi,

Please uninstall the app, reinstall and see how it works. It seems that some files are corrupt.

Thanks.

Hi Jeremy,

I have the same issue, though slightly different trace log.  I have uninstalled and re-installed MS Remote Desktop several times, and used two different "complete"uninstallers to do it.  I still get the same problem.

I'm on OS X Mavericks 10.9.2

Can you give me some guidance about this file?  It doesn't show up when I do an uninstall, nor can I find it with Spotlight.

Thanks,

David

Hello Jeremy,

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalled the app and it still does not work in trying to connect to a Windows 8.1 PRO machine.

However, I have a Windows 7 pro machine to which I can connect without any issues.

Both PC's are on the same network, same subnet. (.3 & .4)

I can RDP into .3 (windows 7 pro) fine and from within .3 can RDP to .4 fine.

However, I cannot RDP into .4 directly from the RDP app.

Any suggestions?

Some additional follow-up: the same credentials and connection work fine in the MS Remote Desktop client on the iPad.  I spent 45 minutes at the Genius Bar in the apple store with no success solving this.

I appear to get the same problem, though only to 1 of my server 2003 boxes. All other server 2003's are fine, so are other boxes in the same network.

Cannot figure it out, also doesn't work on iOS devices (latest.. 7 I think)

Same thing for me. I am trying to connect to Azure Cloud Service (Server 2012) and last week it worked, now with 8.0.6 for OSX (Mavericks) it is stuck at "negotiating credentials."  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and same issue. Can connect to other VM's but this is stuck here with no other error messages.  Co-worker with windows machine can RDP in just fine.  Something in 8.0.6 broke this...

Same thing here too. Noticed there was an update to RDP (version 8.0.7) and installed, but the same error. We have several VMs which are OK and one that just doesn't get past 'negotiating credentials'.

Just wondering: is there a patch (KB) for Windows Server 2012 for Remote Access that fixes this? We noticed some strange behaviour (restarting the VM from the Azure console which took several attempts and when it did work took well over 10 mins) after restarting some VMs and since that has happened we can connect. When I checked the setup event log there were several updates applied following the reboot - haven't had time to check them out.

Has anyone else had issues restarting VMs or is this a red herring?

I have the same problem accessing a server from Mac OS X 10.9.4 using Microsoft Remote Desktop <style type="text/css">p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } </style>

Version 8.0.8 (Build 25010). I can access the server fine from my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 machine and from a Windows 8.1 virtual machine running on the Mac

Mac RDP trace is:

Does anyone know if there is a hiden configuration file on the Mac that needs changing ?

I was having the same problem until I disabled IPv6 on the remote computer, i.e. in the "Network and Sharing Center" for my network adapter, disable "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)".

That solved my problem, but the root cause may be in how my DHCP Server is assigning IPv6 addresses/gateways/DNS servers.
