Failover clustering 2008R2

I tested the failover clustering for SQL 2008R2.

When I stop the SQL server services manully, the failover did not fail to another resource. At the Faiolover cluster manager, SQl server(MSSQLSERVER)  only show the status for offline. I think it should be move to another owner intead of just show as offline.

Hope to get some advise.

Thanks

No, if you stop the sql service - failover will not happen it will go offline.

automatic failover happens only if the node goes down not when sql service is offline. alternatively, you move the sql service to another node man

That is actually the expected behavior. The same would happen if the sql resource was offline in FCM and you start the service manually through services, the FCM would update the status of the resource to ONLINE.

Let me know if this helps
