Failed to install active directory domain services binaries. The error was : The requested operation failed. A system reboot is required to roll back changes made.
I am also getting the same error message and i am using Windows Server 2008 R2 (only available in x64 ). So what should i do to rectify this error without reinstalling the OS. I want to make it a domain controller. Thanks and Regards, CryptBala.

Hi,
Did you run "dcpromo" directly or run Server Manager to install AD role?
Please open %SystemRoot%\Debug folder, find Dcpromoui.Log and Dcpromo.log (if exist) and use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and then give me the download address.
Thanks.This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

For anyone who also searches for a solution for this, set the Remote Registry Service to start automaticly if you disabled it. Reboot and run dcpromo again. Worked for me ;-)

SOLVED ::
First of all You need to add ADDS role from Server manager and then need to run dcpromo.exe from command prompt.
