Extension Attributes and Extending the Schema
We are installing a new server 2008 domain controller into our 2003 Active Directory domain. I know that we are going to have to extend the schema before this is possible. We are currently using extension attributes 1-7 for custom applications. Will these be affected in any way by the schema extension?

Hello, existing attributes are not touched, you'll get new ones. Did you modify the attributes themselves in the schema or just use them for the applications?Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

As Meinolf indicates, the existing extension attributes won't be touched by the 2008 schema extension. The extension attributes 1-15 are not always ideal for custom apps that are not Exchange-related. This is because they are cleared whenever a user is mailbox-enabled or mailbox-disabled. http://www.open-a-socket.com/index.php/2010/10/15/exchange-extension-attributes-a-cautionary-tale/Tony www.activedir.org blog:www.open-a-socket.com

The applications we are using them for a Exchange and Identity Managment. Sounds like we should be safe. Thanks everyone!
