Extend system partition on PE1800 CERC SATA
Hi I know this has been asked in the past but still i would appreciate any help. I would like to extend the system partition c: (12GB c:, 200GB D: ) on my 2 year old dell server PE1800 (windows 2003 x64 std) with 4 SATA drives on a CERC SATA RAID controller 1.5/6ch (setup as RAID 5, type basic). The C: is running out of space as it fills with windows updates. Already tried Diskpart - doesn't work with system partition. Partition Magic 8.0 doesn't work in 2003 server. I'm looking for a step by step guide to accomplish this. Unfortunately cost is an issue so a solution that relies on system tools / low cost tools would be a definite plus.

Hi, Because there is no resize feature in Windows Server 2003 built-in Disk Management, therefore, you must solve the problem with some third-party software. There are so many partition software in the market. However, some unreliable software may cause your data loss. Data is very important for all users. In fact, there are some reliable Partition Magic Server software you can use. What's better, there is also step by step instruction on how to extend system partition on Windows 2003: http://www.partition-magic.org/windows-server-2003/extend-system-partition-windows-server-2003.html

Hi, The following post discussed a similar issue, you can refer to: Extending boot partition for a Hyper-V VM disk http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverhyperv/thread/d0912ef9-be5b-44c0-962e-1740190f0376 By the way, please backup the important data before you perform any disk operation. All partition tools that will be used to extend the disk that the OS is running from will need to be run while the server is offline. Server 2008+ offers live-disk expansion by click and drag in disk manager.
