Extend a self-signed certifcate expiration date to more than one year
I am going to assume I am missing something simple here, but where in Windows 2008 do you change the self-signed cert expiration dates to more than one year? I tried http://support.microsoft.com/?id=254632 to no avail. Tyler Barnes

Hi, Thanks for your post. Before we go further, please confirm: · How do you generate the self-signed certificate? · What is it used for? By default, the expiration period of a self-signed EFS certificate is 100 years. Thanks. It wasn't me, but the guy who did it used IIS and clicked servername then create self-signed cert. But nowhere in this setup did it ask how long to validate the cert.Tyler Barnes

Hi, Thanks for your update. Please understand that the self-signed certificates created from the IIS Manager console is used for test purpose. I am afraid that we cannot extend the validity period. I suggest that you request a certificate from CA instead of using a self-signed certificate in production environment. For your reference, you may get a valid free SSL certificate from Startcom: http://www.startssl.com/ http://www.sophos.com/blogs/chetw/g/2009/09/27/microsoft-updates-root-certs-startcom/ Windows root certificate program members http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/931125 Note: This response contains a reference to a third party World Wide Web site.
