Exchange 2007 GAL Query
Hi, I have an Exchange 2007 environment with Office 2007 clients. In the GAL we have different address lists pertaining to different departments and also depending on the job scope of different individuals. In Exchange 2003 also we had the same kind of an arrangement. If a user wants to send a mail to some users in a distribution group but not all, is there an option to select those specific users by just going to the gal selecting the group and then selecting the users??? This was possible in exchange 2003 with outlook 2003 client wasn't it? Any assistance please?? Thank you.

Whatever group you see in the GAL should be the group created by someone who manage the Exchange server. If your user objects in AD have department attibute filled-in, you cancreate aquery-based distribution groupfor each department base on this attribute. You can refer to following article on how to create query-based distribution group: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/ArticleID/43322/43322.html. You can create query-based distribution group using Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007. BTW, there is a Exchange Forum where a lot of Exchange expert will be able to answer question related to Exchange server:http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=235&SiteID=17
