Event ID 13 Autoenrollment
Hi there, I have a domain with 2 DC servers, one Win2008 and one Win2003. I'm unknow how exactly CA works in Windows, I inheritied this domain. Prior to the Win2008 server there was another DC 2003 and I asume this was the server having certificate services installed. This server crashed and was replaced. The excisting servers do not have CA services installed. On these servers I keep getting this errors eventid 13. Certutil displays the crashed server. What steps do I need to take to get rid of these errors? Again I am not experienced with Certificates. Thanks.

Hello, if i understand you correct no CA exist anymore in the domain, then you have to remove it manual from AD: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555151Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

@Meinolf. Thanks for the quick reply. This does seem to be the document I need. What I do wonder, the document mentiones that I should first make a back-up. But how can I make a back-up of the CA when there is no CA Authority anymore in my domain? MarcelMarcel

Hello, if no CA exist you can of course do a backup. But you should have a backup BEFORE starting at least from the domain controllers in case something goes wrong so you can restore AD to the state before, even if the CA is then still in again. Also important data should be backed up beforeBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi Meinolf, Should it be just a regulier ntbackup (System state) or another kind of back-up? Marcel

Hello, for DCs at least a system state backup is required, better you backup the system state and the system drive of at least one DC. This can of course be done with ntbackup on Windows server 2003. On Windows server 2008 you have to use wbadmin(command line) or the Windows server backup from the server manager.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
