Event 10016 errors
I have a windows 2008 R2 file/print server that is getting tons of Event ID: 10016. I've done searches and found where if you change permission on the APPID it is suppose to fix it. Well, it didn't work for me. Here is my error: The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {B15C0E47-C391-45B9-95C8-EB596C853F3A} and APPID {35B4B29E-0A6B-4ED7-B0A1-117BF912F497} to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. Jeff

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the post. I am wondering if you have followed the steps in the KB899965 article to troubleshoot this issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899965 If these steps cannot work, we need to take the time to collect the relevant information. Navigate to this regitry path HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B15C0E47-C391-45B9-95C8-EB596C853F3A} and export it, then post the result here. Please do the same thing for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{35B4B29E-0A6B-4ED7-B0A1-117BF912F497} Meanwhile, we need to collect the MPSReport. 1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below. Microsoft Product Support Reports http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en 2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the "Select the diagnostics you want to run" page appears, select "General", “Business Networks”, “Server Components”, click Next. 3. After collecting all log files, choose "Save the results", choose a folder to save <Computername>MPSReports.cab file. For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the information files to the following link. (Please choose "Send Files to Microsoft") Workspace URL: (https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=efeda238-a753-4c36-8666-3cb490a1e4f3) Password: XJP*gZ#7ayLl Note: Due to differences in text formatting with various email clients, the workspace link above may appear to be broken. Please be sure to include all text between '(' and ')' when typing or copying the workspace link into your browser. I did not try the MS KB899965 because I thought it was for Windows XP instead of Windows 7. I'm trying it right now, but I'm stuck on Step 6: In the details pane, locate the program by using the friendly name. If the AppGUID identifier is listed instead of the friendly name, locate the program by using this identifier. This is my AppID {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497}and I don't see it in the list. Here is the Name FsrmClassificationManager Class and I don't see that in the list either. So what do I do now?Jeff

Hi, Thanks for the update. I am wondering if you checked these registry keys on Windows Server 2008 R2 File/Print server. In addition, please take the time collect MPS report from Windows Server 2008 R2 and send it to me. I've uploaded the MS Report file. Yes, I've given full permission to the administrators group for both registry entries. 35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497 and B15C0E47-C391-45B9-95C8-EB596C853F3AJeff

Hi, Thanks for the post. It is kind of related to the WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service. Now please follow these steps to troubleshoot it: Open the Component Services Snap-In (Start > Run > comexp.msc) and drill down through Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config > {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497} Right click on it and on the Security tab click Edit in the Launch and Activation Permissions section. Add the Network Service account and grant Allow permissions. Does it work? thanks for the reply. I do not have a {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497} , I have a {35b1d3bb-2d4e-4a7c-9af0-f2f677af7c30}as the only one starting with "35". Nor do I have a WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service listed. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I add it? Jeff

Hi, Thanks for the update. I am a little bit confused about your replies. You said that you have given full permission to the administrators group for both registry entries. 35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497 and B15C0E47-C391-45B9-95C8-EB596C853F3A; However, in your last reply, you said you did not have a {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497}. If possible, would you please take the time to export the following registry keys and sent them to me. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\ HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ Use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://windowslive.com/online/skydrive ) to upload them and post the download link here. Sorry, I don't mean to confuse you. I went into the registry and gave administrator full permissions in the registry to both 35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497 and B15C0E47-C391-45B9-95C8-EB596C853F3A. Your instructions tell me to use Open the Component Services Snap-In (Start > Run > comexp.msc) and drill down through Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM Config > {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497}. When I go there I do not have {35b4b29e-0a6b-4ed7-b0a1-117bf912f497}. I will upload the registry keys.Jeff

Enter HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{35B4B29E-0A6B-4ED7-B0A1-117BF912F497} (Storage Reports Service) If it does not exist then add the above key and enter "Storage Reports Service" in its (Default)-REG_SZ (REG_SZ "LocalService" = "srmreports" can be added then too) On my Sharepoint-Server the Administrators have no right to edit the DCOM-Accesses, so look if the "Administrators" have Rights on the above key. If not claim the administrators the rights of this element and add their right to "Full Access". Then open the ComponentService-Management Shell and give the needed Start-Rights to this DCOM-App.
