Ethernet connection randomly drops
Hi all, One of my organization's servers, a SuperMicro Server, has several Microsoft virtual servers installed although only two are running, an AD server and an Exchange Server (2003, soon upgrading to 2008). For like a month now the external connection (Network Connection 2) of the server has been randomly dropping, those inside the VPN can still access the server and check their email as if nothing had happened but can't receive any emails from outside the local network. The weird thing however is that the connection on the AD server is not affected so it can't possibly be related to an hardware problem. The connection is easily restored by restarting the server. What could possibly be wrong here and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance, Sincerely, João Romão

Hi Joao Can you get any logs from the server and post them up. And is MPP turned on.. i'm not sure of your setup but Memory Pressure Protection could be dropping the connections because of an attack. Or the drivers for the card need updating, when you update your OS update drivers and everything else as well. For now jus check logs, post an error or two on this forum so we check and update NIC drivers, while we look into other alternatives. Hello, to understand you correct you use Virtual server and have networking problems within the virutal machines to access the internet. Then please use the following forum instead: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/virtualserver/threads If Hyper-V is used please see: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/threadsBest regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi, thanks for the quick answer and sorry for the slow response :S Besides the usual info I only have some dnsapi errors How do I check about MPP? Shouldn't be from the drivers, the other virtual machines running on this VMWare installation have the same drivers and wverything's going ok. Just noticed that I really don't need to restart the server, disabling and enabling connection 2 is enough Thanks in advance ;)

I have since deactivated MPP (only on ipv4, not using ipv6 yet) and for a time everything looked nice, but after a week or so the external connection started dropping again and now I have to repair it every 10 hours (more or less) Kinda desperate here :/ Thanks in advance, João Romão
