Error message 8007371c while updating KB2286198
Hi all;
When updating my Windows Server 2008, the 8007371c error message appears and so the updating process interrupted.
P.S. The machine does not have any security products and applications.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Is there anything informative in %systemroot%\windowsupdate.log (usually
c:\Windows\windowsupdate.log).
Also, do you get any errors in %systemroot%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log when
you run this tool:

Have a look to the content of the windowsupdate.log file: it may reveal something.
This is an article about how to read the content of the windowsupdate.log file. It will help you to detect problems.

Try to install the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008.
Download and run the tool, it will say that it's "installing"...it's actually running the readiness scan at this time so you should let the installation run to completion. The KB article says it will appear to hang at 60% completion and I've observed this
as well. Just be patient and let it finish.
This is a link to download it:

Install it and check if your problem is solved or not.
Best regards.

Malek Ahmed (MS Helper), did you miss where I already asked to have the
SUR tool ran and the windowsupdate.log file checked?

I see many errors on the log file.
To start, I found an error with the the ID 0X800401fd and we will try to repair it.
Running a kind of correction for the registry enties should solve this problem (0x800401fd):
http://www.ouvrirfichiers.com/erreurs.php?t202id=316143&t202kw=0x800401FD
Try to download this software to correct the wrong registry entries.
After correcting the reigtry entries, send to me again the new windowsupdate.log file.
Have you installed the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 like I told you?
Best regards.

As you know the software is not freeware...
Yes, I have run System Update Readiness Tool with the same result.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I have already installed CCleaner and scanned the system and it fixed several registry problems. But the update cannot be installed with the same error message.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What is know is that error is due to some wrong registry entries. The non-free software I gave you is known for solving a such problem. The problem with free cleaners is that sometimes they are not enough efficient.
I will search if there another way to proceed to solve it.
Backup your server system state and try different cleaners and check if the 0X800401fd error exists in the windowsupdate.log file.
Best regards.

I'm not sure if installing third party registry scanners and other
utilities to "clean" the system is going to help.
# for hex 0x800401fd / decimal -2147220995 :
CO_E_OBJNOTCONNECTED winerror.h
# Object is not connected to server
# 1 matches found for "800401fd"
Based on the 0x0000045D error in the CheckSUR.log file,

I might be inclined to think that there is a problem with either the
disk, filesystem, or storage controller. I would recommend running
chkdsk /R
from an administrative command prompt and setting up a scan for the next
reboot. This will verify the filesystem, but you may need to use vendor
supplied diagnostic utilities for the disk and controller. 0x8007371c is
likely undocumented with Windows Update, but based on a couple of other
posts that I have seen, I would recommend verifying the protected OS
files by running
sfc /scannow
from a command prompt to see if any inconsistencies are repaired. From
there, I would then recommend following the troubleshooting steps here,
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistainstall/thread/ed275467-5580-41dc-9ccc-3c1e22c6fd28
After this is all done, please get back with the latest information from
the windowsupdate.log file and please re-run the SUR utility,

Hi imprise, any progress?
I don't think that the new proposed links will give positive results because you performed them when I mentioned to you these links and it was with no result.
