Just downloaded sql server express 2012.  When attempting to install exe I get the following error:

Extraction failed - Access is denied

It's attempting to extract autorun.inf when the error occurs.

The problem probably caused by the self extractor. Some info on the autorun.inf file may be stripped out. So the self extractor stopped at that point and threw the error.

Where did you get the setup file? Suggest you to download it from:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29062

If the problem still happens, you can download the .iso file instead of the .exe file from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29066

Same problem. MSI seems to have installed alright. Only the EXE fails to extract.

I have this problem as well.  Windows 2012, SQL express 2012 server with tools.
