Hi,

I have just installed KB3045321 for SQL Server 2012 SP2 and receieved the following error

Error installing SQL Server Data Tools
Upgrade Failed due to the following Error.The error code is :-2147467259.Message:Unspecified error
Error code: 29547

Has anyone else encountered this when applying this patch and if so how did you resolve it?

Can you please share log files generated after failed patch update. Please share it on shared drive like (dropbx, onedrive...) and paste link here so that we can go through it. below link would help you locate it

Please provide us the content of the following log:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log\201508??_??????\_SHARED_\sql_bids_Cpu64_1.log

Note that ?? is the day you installed SP2. ?????? is the hour-minutes-seconds.

My suggestion is run download the update to a local folder on the system drive (C:\SQLPATCH), run the update with the /X switch to extract its content on that folder. Make sure you can see on the following subfolder the sql_bids.msi file. Run SQL Server setup from there.

This is likely this problem even though it says SQL 2008, others have reported the same problem in SQL 2012 SP2.
