Hi, Please try below: Step 1: Verify the relevant Windows Update services ======================================= 1. Click the Start Button, in Start Search box, type: "services.msc" (without quotes) and press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 2. Double click the service "Windows Update". 3. Click on the "General" tab; make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic" or "Manual". Then please click the "Start" button under "Service Status" to start the service. 4. Please repeat the above steps with the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" service. You can also temporarily stop these services, restart the computer, and then start these services again. If any service is missing or cannot be stopped or restarted, please let me know. Step 2: Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder ================================================ This problem may occur if the Windows Update Software distribution folder has been corrupted. We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder. Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we visit the Windows Update site. 1. Close all the open windows. 2. Click the Start Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". 3. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". 4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Tim, I am having the same issue. I have been trying to resolve it for more than 24hrs. I verified the HKLM\components and found no keys that microsoft is refering to in one of the solutions. I tried to reinstall the windows update manager. But, it is keep giving me the message stating that windows update manager is already installed. I also followed both steps you described in above post. Yet, the problem is persistant. I uploaded all the three files listed below to above mentioned site. 1) 20101028_WindowsUpdate_SK007.log 2) System_info_SK007.nfo 3) Win_Srv_2008_Update_Failure_SK007.jpg 4) 200101028_Win_Srv_2008_Update_Failure_SK007.jpg Any help resolving the issue would be greatly appreciated. Dear SK007 I did same and removed permission from root after update, but its not solution. I'm sure there is a folder under "C:\" and Network Services" should set on it, can you help to find that folder?

Here are the steps that resolved the same issue for me. a) Provide full rights on C-Drive to "Network Services" by going into the security Tab on Properties of C-Drive b) Re-run the installation Hope this would help you. Good Luck, sk sk

Thanks SK This solved Problem for this time, but I have web sites with IIS on this server . and if this user have access to C: it will be dangerous. do you know which folder under C may need this permission?

I have same problem with Win 2008 Standard SP2 32Bit. Update Error code 8000FFFF Above solutions did not helped me. I think after I removed some extra permission to keep secure drive C: it happened. The permissions I removed was everyone and users ... . I have just system and administrators now on root of C: Is this problem? how to solve?

Dave9900 If that is the case, I would remove the permissions to Network Services on C-Drive after successful installation of updates. If you can set my posting as answer that would be greatly appreciated. Thank Yousk
