Error: Microsoft.Reporting.Definition invalid on Server

Hello,

I have the following problem. Currently in the company I work there is a process for the generation of the Statements. This process  used rdlc files. This process runs every Saturday and has to generate approximately 5000 files. If the process is run locally (Development Environment) everything works fine, but when the process is running on a Server displays the following error: "invalid exception microsoft.reporting.definition the definition of the report '' is invalid on server "

I researched a bit and I made the following steps that recommend:
- Copy the following dlls in Bin.

Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll

Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll

Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll

Microsoft.ReportViewer.DataVisualization.dll

Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll

- Install the ReportViewer 2010 on the server.

In both cases the error always remains.

Could someone guide me in solving the problem?

Hi AJ.MurciaH,

Thank you for your question.

I am trying to involve someone more familiar with this topic for a further look at this issue. Sometime delay might be expected from the job transferring. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hi A.JMurciah,

Thank you for your questions.

From your description, it seems one specific report has been scheduled to be generated every Saturday. And When the report is scheduled to be generated locally, the subscription will successfully finished. But if the subscription is configured to a remote server, then it will fail. Is my understanding correct?

If yes, then I suggest you to check the complete error message from reporting service log first.

It is located in <Data Drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRSXX.<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles

XX is number. If you use SSRS 2012, then XX should be 11. If you use SSRS 2008 R2, XX should be 10_50.

Please share us the exact error message with call stack information which is recorded in RS log.

Best regards,

Halin Huang

Thanks so much Halin

I'm not using subscriptions for run the reports. I created a Class Library from VS.Net and I use rdlc files for shown the Statements. This library is invoked from SSIS.
One more time, the issue happens only on Server, not in development.

Hi AJ.Murciah,

May I know what RS version you are using? From your description, you mentioned you add some new reference? Do you refer to below article

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brianhartman/archive/2010/06/07/upgrading-web-application-projects-to-vs-2010.aspx

Could you please try to reproduce the issue first and check the latest Reporting Service log to provide us what's the exact error message with call stack? You can search the error "the definition of the report '' is invalid" in Reporting Service log.

RS log is located in <Data Drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRSXX.<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles.

Please copy the error with call stack in the Forum, so that we can clearly know the error message and provide you some suggestions.

Best regards,

Halin Huang
