Enterprise Retail Licensing
Hello,
I need to purchase 2008 Server Enterprise. I will be purchasing it for a Dell T110, separately because Dell does not offer enterprise for this model. I am torn between the Retail and OEM versions. Retail is much more expensive, and the
reason I am even considering it is because of the ability to transfer it to another computer should something happen to the T110 or I want to upgrade hardware. Is this legal to do? I remember this being a limitation of OEM versions in the past,
with other Windows products, but I don't know if the OEM still has this limitation.
The second question I have is about CAL's. I am interested in device CAL's- how do I tell if
P72-03827 comes with Device CAL's or User CAL's?

Both user and device CALs cost the same. You decide which type you want when you purchase the OS.
And yes it is quite legal to re-install a Retail OS on different hardware. OEM version is cheaper because it is tied to the OEM hardware.

Thanks Bill. I'm still a little confused about the Device vs User CAL. When you say that I decide, am I deciding by the product that I purchase? If that is the case, does anyone know the part number for Retail 2008 Server R2 Enterprise with
25 device CALs?
