EFS in Windows Server 2008
We have some data in a folder on our server that we'd like to encrypt using EFS. We have a new Dell Server running Server 2008, in a RAID 5 configuration. We've been unsuccessful in our attempts to figure it out, and would like help - however we've been unable to find anyone who can do it. Aftermarket encryption companies say their products will not work with RAID 5. We are willing to, if necessary, change our hardware configuration, but would like some direction. Can anyone point me to a company, or even a forum entry, that can help us with this?

Hi, Do you mean the Windows EFS? Based on my understanding, EFS should work with RAID-5. Encrypting File System in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457065.aspx Hope it helps. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hi Joson,Yes, Windows EFS. All we want to do is encrypt some data on the server (basically one folder, 62 GB). However the aftermarket products we've looked at seem to have a problem with RAID 5, so now we are considering changing that to a normal setup, just to allow the encryption. Are we looking in the wrong place, or for the wrong software? It appears the Windows EFS that comes with Server 2008 will do what we need, but it's beyond our level of expertise. One company we spoke to quoted us $1200 to set it up, and that did not include any smart-cards or USB keys, or the additional setup that would go with them. Thanks for your reply.Hal
