Dynamic disk missing
My windows 2003 server had 3 disks. Disk 0 used for the system (c:); Disk 1 & Disk 2 for other purpose (they are joined using dynamic - stripped as one large disk assigned drive F:), now one of the dynamic disk failed and inaccessible. I ordered a replacment hard disk (same spec. and same size); and I did a backup of the whole F: disk using Backup Exec Server. Now, how do I change the disk had problem. What are the proper steps to do it? I read some Microsoft articles but still not very clear about the it. Could anyone help? Thank you in advance.

If it was a striped volume then all data would be lost. When you install the replacement disk you can build a new striped volume and restore from your backup. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional -Microsoft MVP [Windows]

Thanks for your reply, but I still have some questions. Do I need to delete the striped volume first then remove the disk from Disk Management? Or I just need to shutdown the server and replace the hard disk then restore the data from backup? Thank you.

You can delete the striped volume by using Disk Management, install the new disk and then create a new striped volume. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional -Microsoft MVP [Windows]
