Dynamic Memory assignment: Oracle DB

Hi There,

I have a client who is running Hyper-V on Server 2008 R2.  Last night I did some updates, and part of that was changing the VMs to use "Dynamic" memory allocation.  I set the minimum/startup to 1GB and maximum to whatever the VM's static allocation was.

Today, one of their applications would not work.  It turns out it relies on an Oracle DB.  The Oracle DB was not able to start because it was running out of memory.  The VM in question (that has the Oracle DB) was set with a maximum of 16GB, however, it was only getting about 1.72GB assigned.

Is there any reason this VM was not getting RAM that it needed assigned to it as it needed it?

Thanks!

Well if you were using MS SQL I would say to look at this link as it has some good information on using Dynamic memory for SQL, mind you only certain editions support this. However from this document it looks like Oracle does not support Dynamic memory on their products.
