Duplicate Groups in AD
Somehow I have some duplicate groups in my AD. Although one is a mail distribution group and the other is a security group. What is the consequence of having these duplicates in AD?

they are not duplicate groups, if you would check distinguish name of those groups you would see that those are different, you can have same display name of both groups for example but DN would be different. You can check DN on object tab in ADUC or using dsquery group -name groupName. There are no consequences of having two groups with same display name. With kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

To add, groups are identified by their SIDs which are unique in the forest (Even if you change the group name that will not cause the problem as its SID is unique) This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. Doing a DSQuery I get: dsquery group -name Starteam "CN=StarTeam,OU=Groups,OU=Benco,OU=Business Units,DC=benco,DC=com" "CN=StarTeam,OU=Mail Distribution,OU=Groups,OU=Benco,OU=Business Units,DC=benco,DC=com"
