Windows server 2008 Std/Ent KMS type: VL2:
Windows Server Standard 2008 Sngl OPEN No Level - Cantidad 2
Saludos.

You cannot convert your 2008 license key to 2008 R2 they are different products and there is no upgrade path. You need to access your server 2008 software through Microsoft volume licensing where you should be able to download it. I am afraid you will need
to reinstall the server. The "2" should indicates you have 2 volume licenses.

Bing Translation:
Rob Williams

Thanks for your response. I don't understand two things: We have licence for windows 2008 std or enterprise? because it says Windows server 2008 Std/Ent KMS
The other: Do we have to purchase a licence to server 2008 or microsoft can provide us with a new licence? Dont matter if i have to reinstall the OS, because we install to try some applications and meanwhile we are upgrading the hardware of the server.
Thanks again!
Regards.

The software download for enterprise and standard is the same it will show Windows server 2008 Std/Ent but the license should specify enterprise or standard. Microsoft will not replace your 2008 license with a 2008 R2 license.Rob Williams

So we have to install windows server 2008 std, or purchase an r2 licence... any big difference between versions? its for run sql server 2008 only.

Correct on your options.
Though for running SQL, I don't believe there are a lot of differences with 2008 R2, it is quite different. Vista and 2008 are built on the same platform, and Server 2008 R2 and Win 7 are similar. The primary gains that I find advantages with 2008 R2 are
Virtualization, Remote Desktop Services, and management. You might want to have a look at the following:

We have an enterprise agreement, and if i log into licensing webpage, in download licensed products appears windows 2008 r2. I have not the serial, but i can view in license menu if i have license for that. The licensing account its not mine and i cannot
log in right now.

The web page may show it for download but you are only allowed to use it, and it will only be able to activate it if you have the appropriate licensing key.Rob Williams
