Domain controller is logging me into local machine...
Fresh install of Server 2008 Enterprise - dcpromo to be new domain controller in a new forest - however after promoting this server to a domain controller I realized that the name of the machine was incorrect. I changed it's netbios name, rebooted and all seemed fine... until I needed to run domain prep for an exchange install on another server. When I try to run this it says I'm not logged in as a domain administrator. I realize now that when I login (domain\administrator) it is logging me into the local machine and not to the domain. When I run "whoami" from a command prompt it is showing machine\administrator and not domain\administrator as one would expect. Has anyone seen this before and how can I resolve this? I imagine it's related to the netbios name change, as it's the only weird step I've done. I'd prefer to not reinstall the OS If I don't have to. Thanks :)

How did you change DC name? look at this article: http://www.petri.co.il/rename-windows-server-2008-domain-controllers.htm Since this is a brand new installation, my suggestion is to remove and rebuild the AD from scratch again. Hi , The prefered way to change the domain controller name is by using netdom rather than UI . Netdom updates the spn object attributes and this updated attributes gets synchronized to all the other domain controllers. verify using ADSIedit --> navigate to OU =domain controller --> CN =servername--> properties. and check for each of the attribute
