Domain computers not showing
Hi all, I have something strange happening. I have a Domain with about 100 computes. Every now and again when I do a restart on my servers, then when you try and look up available computers in explorer/network, it will only show a limited list of computers and not all computers that are available, but if you run and then type \\computer\ you can still access the computer. The Windows XP machines in the domain - When you click on view entire network, it shows "yourdomain", but when you click on that the explore, it states that you might not have permission or the network resources is not available. The windows 7 machines in the domain - Click on windows explorer, then network. shows certain computer (about 14) in it's list, but does not show all computers. I have searched everywhere and can not find a solution, if someone can please help urgently.

Hi, Thank you for your post. Is it a Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 domain environment? To address your problem, I would like to confirm you can see the Windows XP computers from the Windows 7 computer. Regarding the issue that Windows 7 cannot see Windows XP computers, it is related to “Browser service”. For Windows 7 computers, please ensure "Network Discovery" is turned on in "Network and Sharing Center". In addition to check the permission, the following article could helpful to troubleshoot this issue: Troubleshooting the Microsoft Computer Browser Service http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188305 Best Regards, James

Hi James, thank you for the reply. It is primarily a 2003 environment, but my web server and terminal server are both server 2008 R2 From the Windows 7 machines, I can see 2 servers (the 2008 servers) and all the other Windows 7 machines in the building. Network Discovery is turned on. As I said in my first post, this problem fixes itself every now and again. Then it just pops up again. I have worked through that article, but it could not give me a solution to the problem.

Did anyone come up with a real solution to this issue? I am having the exact same issue on a small domain network - 5 windows 7 PC's and 5 xp PC's. The XP PC's can see the entire network but the Win 7 PC's can only see the other Win 7 PC's. It is a server 2003 environment Network and Sharing settings are all set correctly (i.e. network discovery, sharing, etc.) It happens on all Win 7 PC's It has never worked unlike the original post in this posting - but otherwise very similar Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank

Check that the Win 7 machines have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled. (Advanced settings, WINS tab). The computer browser service requires Netbios. Bill
