Domain Short Name

Hi

I apologies in advance if part of this doesn't make sense. but i will try explaining it as clearly as possible.

In my old work place we was able to use a alias to recognize the networks domain.

e.g Domain name was lets say: mydomainname.internal\username

However we was able to give it some form of initials to shorten it i.e dm\username.

it made life so easy when we had to remote into machine because the remote access software we use will ask for the domain name and what we could do was just type the alias like dm\username and it would recognize it as "mydomainname.internal"

I hope this helps in explaining my question

If someone could point me in the right direction, i would really appreciate it.

Thank you

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to simplified the domain name when user log on to a domain.

You may reference the link above to new a UPN suffix(such as dm) first:
Active Directly Domains and Trusts Properties add dm on Alternative UPN suffixes

Then open configure the user account(such as user1) to use the new UPN suffix:
Active Directory Users and Computers Users user1s Properties Account tab change the UPN suffix on User logon name.

Then you may log on to domain with user1@dm.

Besides, you may reference the blog for more information about How Can I Assign a New UPN to All My Users:
