Domain Controllers Trouble Communicating-Intermittent Ongoing
We have two Windows Server 2008R2 domain controllers connected over vpn.(Filesvr1(PDC) and Filesvr2)
The typical symptoms when the DCs can't talk to each other anymore (at least they can't talk completely correctly) --
If you run "dcdiag /v", it will never ever finish or give any error, very odd. I've never seen that anywhere else.
You generally can't open
\\filesvr1 from filesvr2.
You generally can't open
\\ualc.org\ualcdocs from filesvr2 (this is the DFS share).
Tons of event log error where filesvr1 can't connect via RPC to filesvr2 (or vice versa), so it can't find any DC at the other site, so it can't replicate AD changes or DFS changes.
Running "repadmin /showreps" will show lots failures, but it also show the last time it succeeded.
Each time it's occurred, which is every week, we've followed the steps in the following KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325850 to temporarily fix the RPC-related issue between the two domain controllers.
Checked the switches, checked the cabling. Any ideas out there?

Hi,
I would like to confirm what related event errors can you read in Event Viewer?
Please verify if the DNS server settings are correct. You may also refer to the following Microsoft KB article to troubleshoot this issue:
