Domain Administrator Password Change Question
Hi, are there any other repercussions to changing the domain administrator password that was used during domain creation (other than services that depend on the credetials to start not starting)? Also, would there be any side effects on applications like Exchange? i checked on Exchange services and the domain admin password is not used to start up any of them. Thanks in advance, AllieTS_IT

If you (and all other administators) have used good practices and not tied services, scheduled tasks, or other application specific user ids to the domain administrator account you can change the password without issues. If you (or some one else) has used bad practices and is using the domain administrator account for any of the above then changing the password will affect those items. The time frame for noticing the affects vary by application. Example: schedule tasks will be affect at next run time, applications and services that stay logged in will be affect at next restart.By default the Administrator password can be changed without issue...unless you have tied the Administartor account to something as stated above. While the following article does not cover all the above, it does demonstrate potential "best practices" that you should use when deploying applications that require a user id to login as a service, scheduled task, or application specific (like needing to access AD attributes), etc.Best Practices for creating Service Accounts to access Active Directoryhttp://networkadminkb.com/kb/Knowledge%20Base/ActiveDirectory/Best%20Practices%20for%20creating%20Service%20Accounts%20to%20access%20Active%20Directory.aspx

Thank you so much for the answer! We will be changing the password this week and I just wanted to make sure :-) We actually inherited the domain from the consultant that initially set it up and there are still some services that use the credentials but we will switch everything over this week (before the switch)!
