Does an IP conflict break other bindings?
I'm using Server 2008 Standard x64. This server serves as a web server and has many IP bindings to the primary interface. We recently experienced down time and I'm trying to figure out if an IP conflict was the culprit. Time stamps match to when the conflict started and I see nothing else in the logs that could have caused this. So my question is, if I bind an IP address that causes a conflict, will it break any other IP bindings on the NIC? Thanks in advance

I want to add that the IP address that experienced downtime was the primary IP binded to the NIC. Thanks again

Hi, Thanks for posting here. Were all websites on that host also stopped when this conflict issue occurred ?or just only one website affected ? If in this scenario ,based on my knowledge that the connectivity of other IP addresses would not be affected , however just not familiar with IIS , so not quite should if it would stop the entire service when IP conflict issue occurred, you might also post this issue to IIS forum for further suggestion. http://forums.iis.net/ Thanks. No, not all web sites stopped. The only sites that stopped were the named-based sites under the primary IP on the NIC. I went through all the application and system logs and nothing out of the ordinary happened during that time. Other than the IP conflict I mentioned of course. The whole sequence doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks for your reply
