Yes, it is supported on Windows 2008 R2.
Personally, I recommand the use of IE9.

It is necessary to have IE7 on Win2k8 R2 Server to support one of our internal website.Because website working with IE7 only.(On IE8 same application getting crashed) Initially With Win2k8 R2 (IE8)i tried to open the website using IE7 Compatibility option.but
no luck. i have uninstalled IE8 and tried to install IE7 on Win2k8 R2,however no luck. its saying not supported. Any other way we can install IE7 on Win2k8 R2 Server? Regards Kishore

As far as I know, IE7 is not available for Windows server 2008 R2. Do you have checked the following blog?

Hi Kishore,
Windows Server 2008 R2 currently doesn't support IE7, if you can use the update version of IE 9.0, it will be a good option.
