Do I need to purchase new Device CAL's when I upgrade to Server 2008?
We are currently running a single File server (DHCP/DNS/Active Directory) with Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit Standard Edition. We are looking to set up Exhange Server 2010. I see that Exchange Server 2010 requires Windows Server 2008.
So I was thinking of upgrading from Server 2003 R2 64-bit Standard Edition to Server 2008 R2 64-bit Standard Edition so that we could run Exchange. We have 15 Device CAL's for our 2003 server.
What I was wondering was if I would need to purchase 15 NEW Server 2008 Device CAL's when I upgrade, or if the 2003 CAL's could be transfered to the new 2008 server.
Thanks!

Hey Nate,
Your answer would be yes, 2008 CALs are required for your server. Except the CALs aren't installed like Server 2003. You just have them on hand if audited for Product Use or Support.
