Dns issues/Accessing Certain domains
I have a Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory + DNS + DHCP. I also have a Sonicwall + 100mbit line, I having issues accessing certain domains, eg yahoo.com, if type in canada.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com if may work, or aol.com loads very slow or never loads. I can assure my connection speeds are fine (speedtest of 80mb down/60up. I am trying to figure out the root of this cause. The Sonicwall is the gateway and using the ISP dns to resolved external address. Thank you

First check if name resolution works fine using your ISP DNS server. If not try to switch to for example public google dns server. Additionally I would advice you run tracert to problematic site, it may help in troubleshooting the errorWith kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

Please set the DNS server using 4.2.2.2 as an IP address as a forwarder and check if this solve your problem. Is there any reported errors in the event viewer? do the below things 1) Attach one pc directly to the sonciwall port and try browsing if it doesnt works fine then that means there is problem with MTU please set the MTU and try it. 2) Please clear the dns server cache dnscmd /clearcache 3) Add the forwarders of the ISP. 4) Download the Melocious Removal Tool and run it from the safemode and check. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=585D2BDE-367F-495E-94E7-6349F4EFFC74&displaylang=en Thanks http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi Alex, Thanks for posting here. Is this issue effecting all internal computers or few? If you can confirm that internet domain name resolution cause this issue, what I thought you may try disabling EDNS0 on Sonicwall device and check if this issue persist. Some DNS name queries are unsuccessful after you deploy a Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based DNS server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832223 Meanwhile, It Seems that you have deployed active directory in your environment. For internet name resolution, we’d suggest configuring all computers to use internal DNS servers as primary DNS server and configuring internal DNS servers to forward all external domain query requirements to ISP or publish DNS server.
