Directory depth issue?
Hi all, I have a user who has data (PDF's) in folders 10 in deep, the PDF files open fine before they are stored in that location but cannot be opened now even by a domain admin...
is this a permissions thing related to the depth (10 folders deep??) I have searched Technet but not managed to find anything pertaining to these issues......

Pete,
you probably landed on the wrong forum for this question. This is more a Windows server or storage issue...

Windows Server General Discussions

But still, this might help :
http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=94094
Quote: "Imagine if you was able to store file at C:\My Documens\<240+ characters file name> but then user try to copy it to C:\Document and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Some Vendon Application\Documents\<240+ characters file name> he will be no longer to open it."
Check : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320081
There is a chance that the path length of the files is too long, or ACL's blocking access (even for admins...).
Best regards,
Peter
