Directory Security Permissions W2008
Hi All, I'm new to W2008. I want to create a share directory on what is my D: drive (a 2.7 TB Raid 5 external LaCie drive). I have created the directory and shared it to various domain user groups and admin groups, and removed "everyone". In security, it lists Authenticated Users, System, Administrators/domain name, Users/domain name. I would expect to delete the generic Users\domain name and replace it with selective domain users groups I have created. Same for administrator/admin groups. But, I can't delete these non-specific groups unless I turn of "inherit rights" option. I am not sure if the defaults Authenticated Users, Administrators\domain name and Users\domain name need to stay with W2008 or if I can delete them (after deselecting "include inheritable permission...." and add my more specific groups i have created like i have done with W2003 servers. Tnx in advance. Kevin

You can safely uncheck that checkbox and modify permissions according to your needsWith kind regards Krystian Zieja http://www.projectnenvision.com Follow me on twitter My Blog

Delete what you want like said Krystian. Just a remark: NTFS and Share permissions will be combined and the user will get the less of permissions after the combine if he will access the folder as a share. If he will access it locally then only NTFS permissions will be applied. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. You have to mark right-answers so that if someone wants the same thing, he will get it easy as it will be shown in green :)
