Digital certificate issue at Windows Server 2008
Hi All, We are using digital certificate at windows XP and Windows server 2003 and it works fine but when we try to install digital certificate on Windows Server 2008 it gives errors. We are using the same installation steps for windows server 2008 also. Please review the installation steps with error message and guide us how to resolve it at Windows Server 2008. Following are the certificate installation steps 1. Install the certificate from the HTML backup. 2. Open following URL for generating PKCS12 file. https://danid.dk/export/sites/dk.danid.oc/da/support/vejledninger/windows/sikkerhedskopiering/opret_avanceret_sikkerhedskopi/ 3. Now uninstall the TDC crypto service provider. 4. Rename the file from xxx.pkcs12 to xxx.p12. 5. Now import the xxx.p12 file by using the Certificates Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in a. Press Next button b. Enter file path c. Press Next button d. Write the password e. Uncheck “Enable strong private key….” f. Uncheck “Mark this key as exportable…” g. Check “Include all extended properties”. h. Press Next button i. Select “Automatically select…” j. Press Next button k. Press Finish button But after clicking at finish following error message is shown in a popup. "An internal error occured.Either the user profile is not accessible or the private key that you are importing might require a cryptographic service provider that is not installed on your system" We already tried the solution which is at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919074 but it did not work. Please help me. Regards Imran Zubair Best Regards: Imran Zubair

it seems like that your Windows Server 2008 has not installed 3rd party CSP (that was used for key generation).http://en-us.sysadmins.lv

Hi Podans, Thanks for your reply... If i donot unintall the third party CSP then error not comes but it will ask me for entering "key name and password/re-confirm password". And .p12 install successfully. And when i export .cer from this installed .p12 using MMC or IE it exported successfully. Upto to this all is ok but problem start when i use this .cer file in my C# code to get some data from webservice then it prompts me to enter the certificate password(key). And you know that when my application will run on server no body will be there to enter certificate password in CSP prompt. The installation steps which i wrote in my actual question are running fine at windows2003 and XP but problem is coming at windows 7 and windows server 2008. Best Regards: Imran Zubair
