Strange situation; administrator is logged in on server console; everything is ok. Server is left alone for "awhile" and the screen saver(?) turns on (blue screen with longhorn and build number displayed). Server wont respond to keyboard; mouse still moves so not hung up. ctrl+alt+del does nothing. hitting the power switch does nothing (screen flashes to show desktop). No password for the administrator account (funny how the setup didnt ask for that!) ... bunch of errors in event log; i will need to check/fix them up first.

The setup won't ask for password. You're supposed to do the "intial configuration tasks" when you logon the first time.As for the desktop with build number and no other response. Have you checked your display drivers? Have had the same problem once when it didn't like the graphics card.
