Denied Access to the Network
Good afternoon! Hoping someone can help me as I am in greate need of assistance. We are running a network with ten computers that are all on Windows 7 Professional SP1. Our server is on Windows Server 2008 SP2 64-bit. On our server we are using Sage Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012. When an end user went to login to Peachtree this morning she received an error message that stated "An error occurred while reconnecting P: to //Servername/Peachtree/Company Microsoft Windows Network. The user cound not be found. The connection has not been restored". When taking a look at the mapped drive in "Computer", it showed a red X on the network drive. I tried to open the mapped drive to access the program files on the server, but after freezing for about 3 minutes I received an error message stating "Windows cannot access //Servername. You have not have permission to access //Servername. Contact your network administrator to request access." This user is part of the administrator's group. She was out of the office for a couple of days, but it was working fine at the time she left. The system was shut down and not turned on until she returned this morning. Network Discovery is turned on and so is file sharing. She is able to print to the printer that is connected to our server, and able to access the internet. However Peachtree is unreachable due to not network access. This happened with one other user and we eventually had to re-create his account. The new account worked just fine. I am concerned that it will continue and I will not be able to re-create all of our users. Any assistance with this would be most appreciated. Respectfully,

Seems it is a network issue. Need to clear the DNS cache using ipconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew at client system and check once again. is this the problem with single user? or many? Regards, Ravikumar P

A single use for now, but there was a different user about two weeks ago. I am afraid it will filter through the entire team. I'll try what you have stated. Thanks a bunch!

I have cleared the DNS cache on that system, but still have the same problem. I restarted the system and there was a message on the taskbar stating, "Could not reconnect all network drives. Still cannot access the network. Anything else you think I might try? I think another user just went down.

Why Application is accessing //Servername/Peachtree/Company Microsoft Windows Network? What User not is found? What credential application is used by application? it seems to be a problem of your application, it is not related to windows. However you can debug the application using windbag by attaching the process. Create a dump file: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900 and once error occour, you can use windbg. You can also use process Process Monitor to Monitor file system, Registry, process, thread and DLL activity in real-time it may help. Thank |Ashok kumar

>>P: to //Servername/Peachtree/Company Microsoft Windows Network. Have you tried to map same as mentioned above? if so change it to' \\' instead '//'. 1. If UNC path (share path) is correct, try to ping/tracert the server from client. 2. Login as other user/administrator in the same client machine try to map the P drive. Regards, Ravikumar P

Hi T Bubbles, Thanks for posting here. Is this a active directory environment ? client computers are members of domain or just a standalone workstation? Are all these server and clients in same subnet ? are we using DNS ? what if we try to access/map that network location via IP address instead the server name like \\192.168.1.10/Peachtree/Company Microsoft Windows Network ? Meanwhile, I notice there is an error prompt about The user cound not be found so have we input the credential when we mapped that network drive on client computer ? Thanks.
