Deleted user profile not being recreated
I have a user profile on Windows 2008 Standard that got coruppted, and I tried the Windows 2003 fix of deleting it (there was really nothing to save) and logging in with the account again. Now, I only can log in with a temp user, and the account never gets recreated. On Windows Server 2003, if the folder with the user was not found, it would just recreate the account. This computer is my DC, this user account is not affected on any other computer, as we dont use roaming profiles, they are all local. Does anyone know how to recreate the account on the server. It is more annoying then anything else always logging in with a temp account, and nothing being saved, but I would like to recreate the account.Um, if i am very unclear, I apologize.Deleted account (under admin, not the admin account), logged out of admin, logged in with said deleted account and is now a temp account. Those were the steps I took. Thanks all.Scotty

Hi, I am a bit unclear about " how to recreate the account on the server."? Do you mean you want to create the same user account as the deleted one? Or you want to recreate user profile? From your description, I suspect you want to recreate user profile. If so, please see the following: The below registry key indicates the profile path for a specific user according to its SID. As you can see that the profile path sticks to the user's SID instead of the logon name, the modification of the user logon name will not make the system to recreate a new profile. Key Path: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\<User_SID>\] Value Name: ProfileImagePath To create a new user profile, you can simply rename its profile folders name. Here are steps you can follow to rename user profile folder's name: 1)Logon to this server that stores user profiles.Navigate %systemdrive%\users. 2)Highlight the user's profile folder that you want to recreate and rename it. (I take admin for example. Rename admin fold to admin.old). Please note to rename user profile folder, you should logon with a different user account with the user whose profile will be renamed. Hope this helps.

Morgan,You are correct, I only want to create a new profile on the server. As I said, I deleted the profile folder on the server, and tried to re-login and it did not recreate the folder as expected. I do realize I should have just renamed it. This is my DC, so I do not want to affect the domain account, this is still working correctly on other computers (much like my workstation.) If I adjust the registery on the computer, how would that affect the domain user account?Scotty

It should have no effect as the domain account is stored in the AD database and not the local registry. You could just import the profile from another machine or set up a roaming profile for this one user and then logon at another pc. At logoff, the profile would be saved to the roaming location and then logon to the DC and the roaming profile is cached locally. Then convert the profile back to non-roaming and you should have a local profile for that account on the DC.James M Goodwin
