Default share security issue
Hi, My Windows server 2008 R2 Standard is exposing its default shares to other nodes in the same workgroup. By entering \\serverip\c$ in run dialog box ,i am able to access the shares from other systems without logging in. Is this the default behavior ? How can I resolve this?

a credential prompt appears only if current credentials (or cached credentials) don't match remote server's administrator account login/password.My weblog: http://en-us.sysadmins.lv PowerShell PKI Module: http://pspki.codeplex.com Windows PKI reference: on TechNet wiki

If two systems have same administrator login name and same password, can one system view the shares of other(without logging in)?

> without logging in this is not correct part. Network authentication occurs each time you try to access remote resource. And if login/password match on both machines, and particular user account has required permissions, the authentication process is transparent. Othwerwise, authentication fails and you are prompted for different credentials. So, generally speaking, your assumption (except mentioned part) is correct. My weblog: http://en-us.sysadmins.lv PowerShell PKI Module: http://pspki.codeplex.com Windows PKI reference: on TechNet wiki

Isn't the transparent authentication vulnerable to viruses?.If one system is infected,it will take down other systems with same passwords. If this is true, then this is a very insecure design.
