Dead Gateway Detection on Windows 2008
In Windows 2003 we would configure the following registry value to enable/disable Dead Gateway Detection: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "EnableDeadGWDetect"=dword:0 According to this document: http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/2/6/c26893a6-46c7-4b5c-b287-830216597340/TCPIP%5FReg.doc This parameter is no longer listed. From various searches I've read this is auto-tuning. Can the auto-tuning nature be overidden? Will setting this value have any effect? Thanks Kevin

That document doesn't get updated with SPs and other updates. I can verify that for sure that setting is present in the registry but under parameters you will only find: "DeadGWDetectDefault" And each adapter (Parameters/Interfaces/ID) has its own setting which is called "EnableDeadGWDetect". AFAIK the full title of the feature you are talking about is "Recieve Window Auto-Tuning Level". This only affects how packets are sent over TCP. As an aside, I have disabled autotuning on most of my 2k8 servers because they communicate over a WAN, and because of various router/switch flow control settings it can cause reduced network performance. To check autotuning status type: netsh int tcp show global to disable it netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled other settings are [experimental|normal|highlyrestricted]. You need to reboot for changes to take effect.
