DSMOD failed:The server is not operational
Hello, Resetting a password using DSMOD fails when run against two Win2008 servers but succeeds against another. All servers can run the command locally. I don't see anything in the event logs showing failure and can't think of any differences between the servers. Does anyone know what the issue might be? \\ad-tools-01\c$\windows\system32\dsmod user "CN=Robert Test, OU=TestOU, DC=company, DC=org" -pwd "Password100" Thanks, Robert

Robert, What is the exact error message you are getting? Make sure you are running the command promot using administrator rights (Right click run as administrator) Also is the replication happening properly between the domain controllers? Did you check ? Some times it so happens that , due to failure in replication you will face these problem Regards, _Prashant_MCSA|MCITP SA|Microsoft Exchange 2003 Blog - http://prashant1987.wordpress.com Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights.

Hi, Thanks for the response. An administrative command prompt produced the same results. I had already installed the administrative tools and even went as far as to install ADDS on the member server but still receive the same error. The only error I receive following the command is: dsmod failed:The server is not operational. type dsmod /? for help. Thanks, Robert

I would recommend you to run dcdiag /q and repadmin /replsum and check the health of the DC If possible post the result here Regards, _Prashant_MCSA|MCITP SA|Microsoft Exchange 2003 Blog - http://prashant1987.wordpress.com Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights.

I don't know that replication health is the key in this case because the server where DSMOD works is not a DC. It fails on a second non-dc and fails on a DC. The non-DCs have ADDS installed. Thanks
