to avoid extra configuration needed, you usually take 2 seperate names to distinguish internal and external domain. like "company.local" for your active directory doamin name verus "company.yourtopleveldomain" for the www (that one you would have to register/pay) if both names are the same, you would have to do extra configuring for oyur dns (split-brain / split-horizon dns)
