DNS Server

Good day

I was using Microsoft windows server 2008 r2 with active directory installed, than I have installed a new server with windows server 2012 r2 and replicate the active directory to it and deleted the old server.

But now I can't join a new computer to the domain and I accidentally deleted DNS zones.

What are the steps to resolve the problem.

Note: I am MCSA student

Hi

First check dns service is runing on your DC.And the clients prefered dns set to your DC's ip address. And check the fsmo roles holder.on DC run "netdom query fsmo",also you have to transfer fsmo roles before demote the old dc from domain,

Did you transfer this fsmo roles to new DC??

Did you remember demote the old server before you deleted it?

I recommend you to a make restore process for the server to get deleted DNS zones back

Hi Hussain,

To restore the deleted DNS zone, we could follow the guide:
Using AD Recycle Bin to restore deleted DNS zones and their contents in Windows Server 2008 R2:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2010/08/12/using-ad-recycle-bin-to-restore-deleted-dns-zones-and-their-contents-in-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx

Or, we could add it manually.

Add a new primary zone and choose to store it in AD. Then, open Command Prompt, type net stop netlogon. After it is completed, type net start netlogon. Then the DNS records related to DC would be recreated.

About the problem of joining domain, we could post in the forum of Directory Services:

Best Regards,

Leo
