DNS Management Console / IP Address sort problem
If I sort the "Data" field in the DNS Management Console the IP addresses are listed in an alpha numerical order and not in a numerical one. (probably because there are also text entries in the data filed) But it's quite time-conusming if you have to search hundreds of IP addresses and they are not listed in a reasonable way. In server 2003 the sort function worked fine. Is there a way to change the sort mode in the management console? Thanks

I have to suppose that you are speaking about Win2k8, i'm right ? can you write an example of: "IP addresses are listed in an alpha numerical order and not in a numerical one" ?Edoardo Benussi - Microsoft MVP Management Infrastructure - Systems Administration https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/Profile/Benussi Windows Server Italian Forum Moderator edo[at]mvps[dot]org

Yes I am speaking about Win2k8 R2, thanks for the quick answer. an example would be: alpha numerical order: 10.10.10.1 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.100 10.10.10.2 10.10.10.20 numerical order: (as windows 2003 like) 10.10.10.1 10.10.10.2 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.20 10.10.10.100 etc

You can see list in numerical order only if you add win2k8 dns server to a dns manager console under win2k or win2k3 server. Hi Thanks for posting here. In widows server 2008 and 2008 R2 DNS management console , it sorts data alphabetically instead of numerically , and this is a by design behavior. Here also an old thread which discuss same situation for you refer: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverManagement/thread/f1b686ad-824f-4c16-a66c-f9470a2dfa6d Thanks.
