DNS Behavior when VPN'd onto private subnet
We have a production SharePoint site at http://SharePoint.Company.com. We want a development environment thats clones of production VMs on a private subnet so we dont have to change any host names or urls, we'd just have a different DNS inside the private
subnet. When people wanted to access the dev environment, we're thinking we would have them VPN onto the private subnet.
If a user is VPNed onto the private subnet and they browse to http://SharePoint.Company.com, will they access the dev environment or the prod environment? My hope is that the vpn connection will be primary dns, and normal dns would be secondary.Sparkytect

By default the VPN clients will receive the DNS settings of the VPN server. You can always give the clients a pre-configured network config using Connection Manager (CMAK).Bill

Hi Sparkvtect,
Thanks for posting here.
Id also suggest to clean the local DNS cache after get the VPN tunnel established in case client still use the current address to access instead the private address that resolved and obtained from the DNS server where in dev environment through VPN
tunnel.
Flush and Reset the DNS Client Resolver Cache
