DHCP server is not responding
Hi,
i really don't know if this is the right forum to ask my question, but since i think this is a windows server R2 problem...
I have a router on which i'm running DHCP server, my Windows Server has a dynamic IP configuration and on router i reserve a ip based on MAC address
as i do for all the rest PCs on my network.
The problem is that minutes after i restart my router everything is working fine, but after that, connection to the internet is lost (ONLY in Windows Server R2). The LAN is working normaly and i can access Remote Desktop and everything... If i reboot my
router it starts working again. But i dunno why are all the rest computers working?
I've tried x(nth) configuration and i just can't figure out what is wrong. If someone could help me, i'd be very grateful.

Hello,
sounds for me that the router is also DNS server. Is that server a domain controller or workgroup server?
In your case remove DHCP from the router and use the Windows server instead, same for DNS services and a server should always become a fixed ip address.
Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the server and client machine so we can verify some settings.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi,
Windows Server is not configured as a DHCP server, only router is. Workgroup server at the moment.
I'd really rather use router as a DHCP server. I'm not comftable in posting the complete ipconfig /all to the public :D. Settings should be ok, since i did not modify it either on server or any other machine. All i did was setup a router (same for all computers).
Could you please give any suggestion about where to look?

Hello,
as long as you use the private ip range 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x or 192.168.x.x these are NOT accessible for the internet so no problem to post the output here.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi mitjagti,
Run "tracert 4.2.2.2" on your server, contrast result when server lost Internet.

Hi,
thank you all for helping.
I couldn't resolve my problem, so i reinstalled Windows Server and resetted all devices to factory settings. It was worth doing it, becauze everything works now.
